About Injectables

How Cosmetic Injectables Work

For the most part, injectable treatments fall into three main categories: neuromodulators, dermal fillers and biostimulators.

Neuromodulators interfere with the communication between nerves and the muscles they activate. By relaxing targeted muscles, these injectables fade and soften the fine lines (dynamic wrinkles) caused by facial expressions over time.

Dermal fillers complement neuromodulators by addressing different instances of fine lines. In addition to static wrinkle reduction, fillers compensate for age-related volume loss of the cheeks, lips and other areas. The result is smooth, plump, youthful skin.

Biostimulators like Sculptra and Hyperdilute Radiesse encourage your body’s natural collagen production to improve the skin’s texture, elasticity, and firmness. Unlike dermal fillers, which produce fast-acting results, biostimulators take more time to create longer-lasting improvements.

Neuromodulators (Wrinkle Relaxers)

Botox is a highly popular injectable for wrinkle prevention and treatment. This FDA-approved neuromodulator has been safely used for decades to smooth forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines and banding along the platysma muscle.

Dysport offers similar benefits to Botox but with a slightly different formulation that may spread more naturally across treated areas. Some patients prefer Dysport for larger treatment areas like the forehead, as it can create more subtle, natural-looking results.

Daxxify is the newest addition to the neuromodulator family, offering longer-lasting results than traditional options. While most neuromodulators last three to four months, Daxxify can provide smoother skin for up to six months in some people, making it an excellent choice for busy patients who prefer fewer touch-up appointments.

Dermal Fillers

RHA Revance fillers are specially formulated with a more resilient form of hyaluronic acid (RHA means “resilient hyaluronic acid) to adapt to your dynamic facial movements. This allows you to maintain your results while making natural facial expressions.

Juvederm is a versatile hyaluronic acid filler that comes in several formulations designed for different areas of the face. From smoothing smile lines to plumping lips, the Juvederm collection offers targeted solutions with results lasting six months to two years, depending on the specific product used.

Restylane provides another excellent hyaluronic acid option with formulations specifically designed for lips, cheeks, under-eye areas and nasolabial folds. This filler line is known for creating natural-looking results that integrate seamlessly with your facial anatomy.

Radiesse is formulated with calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres that not only provide immediate volume but also stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. In this way, Radiesse acts as both a dermal filler and a biostimulator. This dual action makes Radiesse particularly effective for hand rejuvenation and deeper facial folds, with results lasting 12 to 18 months.

Revanesse rounds out our filler selection with a smooth, cohesive hyaluronic acid gel that provides natural-looking volume restoration. This filler is known for its excellent integration with facial tissues and long-lasting results.

Biomodulators

Sculptra works differently from traditional fillers by gradually stimulating your body’s collagen production over several months. Rather than providing immediate volume, Sculptra creates progressive, natural-looking improvements that can last up to two years. It’s particularly effective for overall facial volume restoration and skin quality improvement.

Are They Right For You

How to Know if Injectables Are Right for You

Injectables are a highly versatile, minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatment that can accommodate a wide range of common aesthetic concerns. If you’re in good overall health and looking to prevent early signs of aging or address already established concerns, you may be an excellent candidate for injectable treatments.

Specifically, you may benefit from injectable treatments if you:

  • Notice wrinkles appearing while making facial expressions – dynamic lines
  • Have fine lines that are visible at rest – static lines
  • Experience volume loss of the cheeks, lips or temples and more
  • Want to prevent the worsening of wrinkles
  • Prefer a nonsurgical aesthetic treatment approach with minimal downtime
  • Have realistic expectations about gradual, natural-looking results
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have no infections in the treatment area

Our providers will carefully evaluate your anatomy, goals, preferences and health status in a consultation to recommend the most effective treatment approach.

What to Expect

What to Expect During Your Treatment

MedSpa is committed to making your injectable treatments as comfortable and efficient as possible.

The first step of the treatment process involves cleaning the treatment area and applying a topical numbing cream for added comfort if desired. Some of our fillers already contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that improves discomfort.

Then, our skilled injectors will precisely administer each injection using ultra-fine needles. The entire process typically takes between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on the number and size of treated areas.

Immediately after your treatment, you may notice some slight redness,  swelling and possible bruising. This should resolve within one to several days. Following aftercare instructions will improve comfort and safeguard your results. Your provider will discuss individualized expectations.

Post-Treatment

Post-Treatment Care and Results

Though injectable treatments don’t require any official downtime, following these basic steps is still essential for optimizing your results and preventing side effects:

Immediate Aftercare

The first 24 to 48 hours:

  • Avoid touching or massaging treated areas with the exception of biostimulators.
  • Stay upright for at least four hours after neuromodulator treatments
  • Apply ice gently if swelling occurs
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat exposure for 24 hours
  • Stay well-hydrated and avoid excessive alcohol consumption

First Week

  • Sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling
  • Avoid facials, chemical peels or other aggressive skincare treatments
  • Use gentle, fragrance-free skincare products
  • Apply sunscreen diligently to protect treated areas

Depending on the type of injectable, results can last between a few months and multiple years. This gives us the freedom to adapt your treatment plan as your face changes over time. Maintaining a consistent follow-up schedule and optimal skincare routine, including regular sunscreen use, will keep your skin looking its best in the long term.
